Presenting WPhone

Back on September 12th, Matt posted a challenge to the wp-hackers mailing list to make an iPhone admin interface plugin.

Well, after a month of hard work, Stephane Daury, Doug Stewart, and I have released WPhone . It allows you to use a custom admin interface while interacting with your WordPress install via your phone. It supports all mobile devices, but was mainly designed and coded for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Hope you all enjoy it and I look forward to any feedback. 🙂

  1. This is cool.

However I seem to get the iPhone interface on my non-iPhone.
I have a Nokia E65 and the iPhone interface no-worky for me.
    The UA is: “Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413 es65”

  2. @westi: we were hoping that the N60WebKit browser would support the extended interface, being webkit and all. Could you give us an idea of what’s not working so I can define if it’s the same issues we seem to be having w/ the iPhone/iPod?
PS: we haven’t even really been able to preview the app on an iPhone yet… :p

  3. @Stephane: I get the iPhone style interface which looks lovely on the screen – but none of the js seems to work so from that screen I can’t actually do anything apart from go to the comments section as that seems to be a direct link. As for a screenshot I’ll see what I can do this evening.

  4. Hey Westi: sorry it took us a while to address this (in retrospect), but we were hoping we might have the time to actually have rich support for the Nokia devices by the time the contest ended. Unfortunately, we don;t have such devices to test with, so we’ve had to give up on having this in before the deadline (tonight @ 10PM PST).

On the other hand, what I did was to make sure we don;t get a false positive on devices such as yours, so that you are at least presented with the lean/mean *lite* interface, and can be productive. It’s available in the dev branch right now if you want, and will be part of the 1.3.2 release.

    See http://forum.wphoneplugin.org/viewtopic.php?pid=67 for more info.

    Hoping you’ll see this. 🙂
    Cheers,

    Stephane
