Update: I just realized that the WordPress.org Development Blog has been updated with a link to the 2.0 Release Candidate. If you try it out, make sure to backup your database and files first!
This morning, well yesterday morning now, Matt (one of the lead developers of WordPress) posted the following on the wordpress-hackers mailing list:
Subject: [wp-hackers] 2.0 Release
Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the phase of the moon.
Now would be a great time to start making sure your themes and plugins work with the new version, and post to hackers if you need any help updating them.
As I talked about earlier, WordPress v2.0 will have tons of new kickass features, both in the admin area and especially behind the scenes. If you’re interested in a more detailed list of what’s new, check out this blog post by Owen Winkler.
As for what’s gonna work and what’s not plugin and theme wise, he’s also written this post on that matter. Don’t fret though, all of my plugins work with WordPress v2.0, minus Short URLs, but who cares about that retarded plugin anyway?
Oh, and to those using WP-Dash, make sure to disable the “Recent Posts” widget BEFORE upgrading! Due to the major changes in how user permissions work (user roles have replaced user levels), this widget is broken and will spit major errors at you if you have it enabled. I’m told a new version will be released once WP 2.0 is released, but meanwhile, don’t foorget to close that widget. 😉
