jQuery Lightbox For Native Galleries

Development on this plugin has been retired and discontinued in favor of Jetpack and it’s Carousel module, the same one that runs on WordPress.com.

In my opinion it’s a much better lightbox functionality and provides a better feature set than my plugin.

jQuery Lightbox For Native Galleries makes the native WordPress galleries use a lightbox script called ColorBox to display the fullsize images.

  1. Hi, I just installed your plugin. I created a gallery named mygallery and added the following line on my page content:

    [EasyGallery id=’mygallery’]

However instead of showing the images it shows me a link.

  2. Hi,
First of all let me say this is a great plugin!
I’ve just installed it on a WordPress using a custom theme I’ve created. Everything seems to work fine except that for some reason the overlay image is placed at the very bottom of the page instead of centering it in the viewport.
Any idea of any missing layout which might be causing this behavior?
    Thanks in advance

    • This is weird. I’ve removed your plugin and installed “Lightbox Gallery plugin” instead (it uses colorbox as well) and now images are displayed properly (centered in the viewport).
Is there a chance this has to do with colorbox version? “Lightbox Gallery” uses v1.3.19 while “Lightbox for native galleries” uses v1.3.14

  3. Great work Alex. I love this plugin, it’s awesome.
But if i can add a sharing functionality to it, it would be pure awesomeness.

Please help me how can i add the sharing on Facebook and twitter to the image that is browsed.

Thanks man and keep up the great work

  4. Howdy.

Im developing a site locally and noticed that the installation of this plugin interferes with the WPNewCarousels plugin. Has anyone else had this issue and found a way to fix it?

    It is very frustrating stuff…

  6. There seems to be a conflict between your lightbox plugin and IBlocks. Both activated at the same time produces this error in firebug:

    $(obj).find(“a”).colorbox is not a function
    [Halt on error]

    $(obj).find(“a”).colorbox({rel:galleryid, maxWidth:”95%”, maxHeight:”95%”});

    And renders the lightbox inoperable.

  7. I am also looking for a way to add Facebook Like/ Share and possibly other social media buttons. What would you recommend. Can you provide a quick example and where to edit the code. Thanks in advance!

Much appreciated your plugin and active support.

  8. Help please. Do not set the style options to Lightbox worked.
In the default theme and it works.
I tried to change the file – media.php, but the class is not added.

  9. just wanted to thank you for creating such a beautiful plugin which is so well optimized for good SEO too, I have had immense benefit from this plugin and Never ever had any problem. Timely upgrades and sexy redering. This is awesome !

  10. Hello,

I am using the plugin for a non-gallery image. I gave the link a class of “lightbox”. While the lightbbox works perfectly, I noticed that the image caption does not show anymore across the bottom of the image when in the lightbox as it does when you use it for a gallery.

How do I get the image caption to display in the lightbox??

    Thank You.

  11. Hi,
First, thanks a lot for this plugin !!!
Do you know if it’s possible to have an automatic slideshow, I have a look in the js, but i don’t find….

  12. thank you very much for such kind of great plugin !!! it’s very easy to use.
i have a suggestion, please load script in footer on line 34, it cause problem for me , but i fix it to load the script file in footer. like this

    wp_enqueue_script( ‘colorbox’, plugins_url( ‘colorbox/jquery.colorbox-min.js’, __FILE__ ), array( ‘jquery’ ), ‘1.3.14’ , true );

  13. Hey I’m trying to use this plugin in conjunction with my post at http://www.freetechnologytips.com/2012/06/feh-robot-project/ and it doesn’t seem to be working. I don’t want to take up too much of anyone’s time but does anyone have any quick ideas why this wouldn’t be working? I installed and activated the plugin…and inserted gallery into my post. I don’t have Smart YouTube or whatever but do you think it’s a conflicting plugin?

    • I don’t see any of this plugin’s Javascript being loaded. Do you have <?php wp_head(); ?> somewhere inside of the <head> tag inside of your theme’s header.php? All themes should ideally have this hook.

      • oh wow. yeah that was it. now i’m looking into what happened to my theme and what other plugins weren’t working as a result. well this is intricate.

thank you so much! now, on to fixing the problem… *sigh*.

  14. Hi Alex,

I have a wordpress gallery of images, and I want to have it so clicking on them brings up an image slider like you have for those 6 images above. The only reference to the gallery I have is [gallery] and the hrefs for the individual images. how would I go about doing this (looked forever for an example but couldn’t find it)?

    • It should work without any further intervention on your part. If it’s not, then something is wrong.

Can you try switching to the default theme temporarily to see if it works?

If it does, then you know it’s something wrong with your theme, likely it’s missing <?php wp_head(); ?> inside of it’s header.php file. Add it right before </head>.

If it still doesn’t work, then probably another plugin is conflicting with mine.

  15. Just a question on the jquery lightbox, are ther any commands to switch of the lightbox for selected galleries, cause in some galleries the thubnail should link to the attachementpages and not the images? …

e.g: [gallery lightbox="off"] or some like this..?

    • Works fine for me in Firefox and Chrome but I see the issue on your site you’re talking about in Internet Explorer. Man I hate that browser. 🙂

Since I can’t reproduce it on my own site, my guess is some CSS (styling) in your theme is causing this issue.

  16. This is just a great Plugin and looks great, i have one Problem it dosn t work in IE even not in IE8 why? The big picture shows up in a black line instead of the picture
i would be really glad if you can help me to fix it for IE because i want to use the Plugin

  17. (1) Although it wasn’t updated in a while, the plugin works great, apparently. (2) The images are automatically resized to fit the browser viewport size — so, it’s great even on mobile devices.

As always, thanks a bunch for the awesome plugin Alex. 🙂 I am pleasantly thrilled to have found it finally (via Donncha’s website source).
