Learning Dvorak

Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into?

Matt Mullenweg has been preaching the benefits of Dvorak for many years now. After his latest sermon, I decided it was finally time that I give it a go. I’m only using Dvorak here and there as it murders my WPM (I type like a letter per 5 seconds — this post took forever to write), but I did rearrange my keyboard keys to help me out:

Dvorak

(The F and J keys on my keyboard have their connectors turned 90 degrees, so they and the keys that replace them had to be rotated.)

Currently I type with only 2 or so fingers (hunt and peck without the hunting), so I’m hoping that switching to home row Dvorak will be better on my hands even though home row is really uncomfortable. We’ll see. 🙂

I’m Not Dead

Just a quick note that I’m still alive and kicking. I’ve been really busy with a new job (I’ll save that for a future post perhaps) and soon writing more stuff for the WordPress core. I was also gone for the past week attending my dad’s wedding and then a beach vacation with the new extended family, but got back a few hours ago.

So yeah, I’m here, but my blog and my plugins have taken a back seat for now. 😉

Inactivity

Just a head’s up to anyone that needs me — I have to be moved out by the 30th (that’s two weeks, ugh). I have no clue where I’m moving to (I’m trying to find an apartment), if I’ll have Internet or what (I need it of course), and so forth.

And before then, I gotta spend major amounts of time cleaning up 9 years worth of crap in this house so we can move out ASAP as well as time spent on my new job.

In short, I may be MIA for a while.

WordCamp Portland

Apparently there’s gonna be a WordCamp here in Portland. The previous major WordCamps have always looked interesting but were much too far away for me to go. However with this one being just a short bus ride away, I no longer have any legitimate reasons not to go.

So, I guess you know where I’ll be on Saturday, September 27th. 🙂

My Audioscrobbler Account: Five Years Ago Today

Five years ago today, I made an account on some site called “Audioscrobbler”. It was a new fangled site that’d keep track of the music you listened to and create trends, history, etc. No one had really ever heard of it and I only did because I knew one of the developers who was also helping out with Audio-Tracker (a “Now Playing” image site).

Five years later, Audioscrobbler has merged with Last.fm and become the awesomeness that it is today. Oh how the times have changed.

A Few Random Notes

Rather than making a couple short posts I’ve been meaning to make, here there are crammed into one post.

  • Web Developers: When backing up your computer before formatting, don’t forget to backup your MySQL tables too. Don’t be an idiot like me and loose a lot of your work. Thankfully I remembered to backup all my PHP code and I don’t think there was too much of utter importance in my database, but still, what a flippin’ pain in the ass.
  • My New Computer: is awesome. It can play any current game on max settings, including Crysis. I love it and you can see the specs right here.
  • Happy New Year: Happy New Year, Merry Christmas, etc. Yeah, I’m lazy and put this off. heh
