“Quote Comment” v2.0 Released!

I’ve finally released the entirely recoded version of my Quote Comment plugin.

For those who haven’t heard of it before, this plugin allows commenters to quote other comments in their reply. It is highly cofigurable, all via an admin area options page. Try it out here.

As for what’s new in this version, well, everything is. In v1.x, the plugin was very simple. It’d take the content of a comment and use it to create a link that would paste the contents of that comment into the reply box.

Now, a placeholder is used instead. The default placeholder format is this: [Comment ID #123 Will Be Quoted Here]. When a comment is requested, Quote Comment replaces the placeholder with the real comment. The advantage of this is that any edits to the original comment show up in the quotes, formatting of past comments can easily be changed, etc. The only drawback is that the person quoting is not able to only quote part of the comment. Perhaps I’ll think of a way to do that later.

But for now, what are you waiting for? Go download it now!

iMeat

I know what I want for Christmas next year!

A 14-year-old girl who received a new Apple iPod opened the sealed box and found raw mystery meat inside, according to a Local 6 News report.

Rachel Cambra purchased a new high-tech iPod for her daughter as a gift this week.

When she opened the sealed box, the device was missing and in its place was a piece of raw meat, the report said.

Cambra said the box was sealed and that it didn’t appear to have been tampered with when she brought it home from the Honolulu Wal-Mart where she works.

An investigation found that a former employee apparently tampered with a shipment of iPods and put the meat into several packages.

The former employee now faces tampering charges, Local 6 News reported.

The Wal-Mart where the device was purchased from promised to give the family a new iPod from the next shipment the store receives.

WordPress 2.0 – A Late Christmas Present

Just a head’s up that the release of WordPress 2.0 has been pushed back a few days:

Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the phase of the moon.

Core support people have requested a delay until after Christmas in order to prepare upgrade documentation and enjoy the holidays a bit before the release.

This, combined with the fact I haven’t got the changes to wordpress.org ready, is pretty compelling, so the release is currently planned for the 26th of December.

Much better to push it back a little in my opinion rather than push it out before it’s done. 🙂

WordPress v2.0 Final This Wednesday or Thursday!

Update: I just realized that the WordPress.org Development Blog has been updated with a link to the 2.0 Release Candidate. If you try it out, make sure to backup your database and files first!

This morning, well yesterday morning now, Matt (one of the lead developers of WordPress) posted the following on the wordpress-hackers mailing list:

Subject: [wp-hackers] 2.0 Release

Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the phase of the moon.

Now would be a great time to start making sure your themes and plugins work with the new version, and post to hackers if you need any help updating them.

As I talked about earlier, WordPress v2.0 will have tons of new kickass features, both in the admin area and especially behind the scenes. If you’re interested in a more detailed list of what’s new, check out this blog post by Owen Winkler.

As for what’s gonna work and what’s not plugin and theme wise, he’s also written this post on that matter. Don’t fret though, all of my plugins work with WordPress v2.0, minus Short URLs, but who cares about that retarded plugin anyway?

Oh, and to those using WP-Dash, make sure to disable the “Recent Posts” widget BEFORE upgrading! Due to the major changes in how user permissions work (user roles have replaced user levels), this widget is broken and will spit major errors at you if you have it enabled. I’m told a new version will be released once WP 2.0 is released, but meanwhile, don’t foorget to close that widget. 😉
