OMFG SNOW!!!

Holy crap, it snowed today! And over an inch’s worth!

Now of course that may sound like nothing, but consider that I’m about 220 feet above sea level (way low) and not very far north of the 45th parallel (i.e. I’m not in Canada or something like that). Also consider that the last time we had snow that stuck was many, many years ago. Then you’ll realize how rare this is. 😀

Hosting Company Wants to Adopt Kid

What the hell…

A web hosting outfit wants to legally adopt a child under the name of the company.

Weblinkhosting.com says that it wants the child to live at the web hosting data centre where he will be provided with food, clothing, shelter and love from the owner and employees.

The plan gets scarier when you read the company’s press release about the plan. “He (sic) can learn all there is to learn about his new mother, web hosting. Perhaps even work for the company in the later years and become a Linux guru,” the press release says.

Apparently the company has been working on the legal adoption process for six months. The deal being hatched out will involve the kid being “the logo and slogan” of the company when he has become old enough. Has the world gone mad? [Yes. Ed]

You can read the press release here. µ

Movie Reviews

Thought I’d sum up some of the movies that I remember seeing lately:

  • The Aristocrats: the funniest movie I’ve ever seen. Sure, it’s not a real movie, rather a documentary of sorts, but still, I laughed my ass off so hard when I watched this movie. If you don’t mind bad language and that kinda stuff, go see this movie right now!
  • The Island: very kickass movie totally worth seeing. It’s like a realistic and feasable version of the first Matrix movie.
  • Lord of War: not the movie I expected. I thought it was going to an action flick, but it was more a movie on life as a gun dealer. Still a good movie though.
  • Aeon Flux: worth seeing once, but not any more than that. It was kinda boring and they almost tried too hard for it to be futuristic and stuff. Still, getting to watch Charlize Theron is reason enough to see this movie. 😀
  • Four Brothers: awesome movie. Lots of action and some good acting, especially from people you wouldn’t expect it from. Go see it.
  • Serenity: big thumbs up, especially for sci-fi fans. I never saw the TV series (there was a TV series, right?), but I may have to after seeing this movie.
  • Revolver: I had never heard of this movie before seeing it as it’s from the UK, although it’s a Guy Ritchie movie, so that should be enough right there. Sadly, it’s not really. An interesting flick, but it’s confusing as hell and doesn’t even make sense, or at least it didn’t fully for me. Maybe this is one of those movies that you need to watch high…
  • Doom: save your money. It’s decent for an action flick and there’s a twist at the end, but the plot, if you could call it that, blew and the first person view that they did for a short while was retarded.
  • The Dukes of Hazzard: avoid this movie at all costs. There were only two good things in this movie and it was Jessica Simpson’s T&A (but definetly not her acting) and the driving skills of the stuntmen. The “plot” sucked, the acting sucked, etc. Oh, and did I mention the plot sucked? Horrid movie.

WeatherIcon v2.3.1 Finally Released

So after having the version from Garett sit on my computer for like a month, I’ve finally combed through it, fixed some final bugs, added a few more little features, worried for a week or two if I had missed anything, and now released WeatherIcon v2.3.1. This version is pretty much entirely bug fixes with a few new trivial features.

Go download it now! It’s really recommended that you update. 🙂

Announcing “Alphabetical Plugins”

After learning that in WordPress v2.0 (the upcoming version of WordPress that was previously known as v1.6), the plugin management page would still sort plugins by directory and filename rather than the plugin’s name (which makes a lot more sense to me), I decided to write this new plugin.

It creates a sub-page on the plugin management page in the admin area that’s exactly like the original, except that the plugins are sorted alphabetically rather than by directory & filename.

More details and a download link can be found on the plugin’s homepage.

WordPress v2.0 Betas

Yes, that’s right, beta versions of WordPress v2.0 have been released and I must say, it’s majorly kickass. Partially AJAX admin area, tons of new features, etc. WordPress is really shaping up to be an even better blogging software, not that it wasn’t before.

If you want to try it out, you can download via the link in this thread of the WordPress support forums.

I’ll post a screenshot later today hopefully (it’s already 7 AM and I still haven’t gone to bed). Oh, and if you encounter any issues with my site, make sure to leave a comment on this post pointing them out.

Update [6:23 PM]: Here’s the screenshot of WordPress v2.0. Note the draggable boxes on the right side and the AJAX category selection.

Update [7:10 PM]: Just realized I screwed up my .htaccess when I was working on it last night. Permalinks / comments should work now for posts. Sorry.

Yes, FinalGear.com Is Down

Yes, my other site, FinalGear.com is down. The box it’s on is having issues (the cron task keeps crashing when the box is booted up). It’s being worked on, but no ETA for how long until it’s up is known.

However, while it’s down, you can still get to out IRC channel via this link.

Edit: Site’s all back up as of around 6 PM on the 15th. Enjoy! 🙂
