7. Amazing plugins!

How about a photo gallery that allows you to add photos to multiple categories and tag them just like with posts? Nextgen gallery is decent but I think it would be much better if it mimicked that kind of WordPress functionality.

I get asked about this functionality from clients all the time, but I’m no WordPress expert so not sure how I’d go about doing this myself.

10. Answered my own question above. I have been testing this and got it to work as follows:

After doing some research and found this…

I was linking to: http://live.str3am.com:3020/listen.pls and it didn’t work.

But changing the link to this DID work:
http://live.str3am.com:3020/;

Notice the trailing slash and semicolon (and the omission of “/listen.pls”). Shoutcast servers (DNAS) look at the useragent of a request to detect what to send back in the response. If it’s a browser then it serves a page of HTML. If it’s not a browser UA, it sends the stream. Trailing semicolon (for some undocumented reason) causes DNAS to ignore the UA and always send a stream.

So, after testing, VVQ is working for live streams (at least from shoutcast) using VVQs flash player option.

GREAT PLUGIN!

15. Hello,

Firstly, thanks for creating a great plug-in.
Up until I upgraded to a new computer, the viper videoplug-in worked really well. I’m now using an intel iMac 64 bit. The problem is, although the thumbnails display on the visual editor, when i press the thumbnail button, nothing happens. It does not do anything. I cannot get to post any type of video as the button does not seem to be accessible.

i have not installed any new plugins or added anything new to the site at all. Would this have to do with Safari/firefox or Chrome being in 64 bit as opposed to 32?

Any help would be vastly appreciated…

Many thanks

will

16. Hi Alex,

There is no live example as the site is behind closed doors being filled with content. It seems it’s the buttons on the visual editor that don’t work, as the rest of the editor itself does. Only the video content doesn’t work; that’s the same for visual view and html. This means I am unable to post video content as the buttons do not execute.

I’ve uninstalled plugins, changed editors, uncached and rebooted, but the problem remains. I’d hate to lose this great plugin as it’s the best out there.

Perhaps you actually need to access the site live to understand?

Regards,,
will

• Oh, seems I misunderstood the issue. It’s the visual editor that’s not working? Hmm, not sure about that.

You can just manually type out the shortcodes though:

[you tube]http://youtube.com/….[/you tube]

(with no space after “you”)

17. Hi Alex,

After checking the website out via firefox and using firebug, this error came up:uncaught exception: cannot call methods on dialog prior to initialization; attempted to call method ‘close’

Line 0

also, this was listed too:

does this help you at all?

Reagrds,

Will

19. Hi Alex,

I installed your plugin on my WordPress blog and I really like it. Thanks.

Under the YouTube settings of the plugin, it is specified that autoplay video is not recommended.

May I query why autoplay is not recommended? Will there be any problem or issue if autoplay is selected?

• I should remove that notice. It’s there for no other reason than your visitor’s sanity. There’s no technical issues. 🙂

EDIT: Just noticed DJ Allyn beat me to it. That’s exactly why the message is there.

20. May I query why autoplay is not recommended? Will there be any problem or issue if autoplay is selected?

I can answer that one.

There are a couple of good reasons why autoplay is not advised. The first one — and probably the most important one — is that nobody likes to be hit with a player that automatically starts up when they get to your site. For all you know, your potential visitor is at work or somewhere that he or she doesn’t want the sound of your video to blast out of your computer for everyone to hear. (not to mention being startled by the automatic sound. Let you visitor decide if and when to play your video. I know from MY personal experience that every time I hit a site that automatically starts playing a video or audio, I will leave that site instantly.

The other reason (and probably as important) is that if you have more than one post on a page containing a video, if all of them start up automatically, you are going to have a bunch of conflicting noise on your site.

Again, let the visitor decide if and when to play the media you’ve posted.

21. Alex, do you have any news as to when your next version of this plugin might be ready? You piqued my interest a couple of months ago when you mentioned it, and am eagerly waiting…

If you need someone to beta test — just let me know…

22. As for a release date, I work with WordPress all week long, so it becomes hard to motivate myself to work on it more on the weekends. Progress is slow. 🙁

I know the feeling. I am the director of sound on a TV series and the one day a week I have to do nothing is pretty much devoted to … doing nothing. 😉

25. Hi Alex,
I am using your plug-in and it’s really cool. But I am facing a problem. I am using simple press forum and there is a option available named Link to forum-Create forum topic.

When I enable this for a post that contains a tag of your plug-in, the design breaks down.

You can see the screenshot here.

30. Hi! Is it possible to add in nearest build thumbnail generation support?
Cause theres a plenty of themes that use thumbnails on indexpage. And if I add video I get blank post…

It would be great to have thumbnail generated image for themes thumbnail place.

31. I have used your plug in for a variety of site, but for some reason my latest attempt is not working on the specific file size feature…

I set the youtube video to display 229 x 180, and the source code shows the style was updated but the image preview doesn’t have any size set to, and displays the image too big…

any help would be appreciated…

33. Hi,

I’ve been using your plugin for quite some time now, and it’s working just great. There’s just one thing… for a few days now, youtube videos show up as clickable images for some unknown reason. Everything else (vimeo, google, etc) works fine. Do you have any idea of why this happens ?

Thank you.

35. I think this is related to the other individual above who can’t get it to work as well.
add_filter( ‘widget_text’, ‘do_shortcode’, 11 ); // Videos in the text widget
add_action( ‘widget_text’, array(&$this, ‘SWFObjectCalls’), 50 );
I’m having issue in that I don’t get the swfobject.embedSWF script unless I add an empty text widget.
I am almost certain this is due to the “widget_text” filter used to do the shortcode.

How can I activate the do_shortcode in the sidebar without using a widget?
// … before this is my query to get post with category "video" …
// GET CUSTOM FIELD VALUE
$videoshortcode = get_post_custom_values($key = ‘VideoShortcode’);
// GET FIRST in array in case more than one exist
$videoshort = $videoshortcode[0];
// CHECK THAT SHORTCODE EXISTS
if(isset($videoshort) && strcmp($videoshort,”)!= 0) {

// DO THE SHORTCODE
echo do_shortcode($videoshort);
}
• swfobject.embedSWF should be outputted at the bottom of each and every post (if there’s embeds in a post, the SWFObject calls for those embeds will end up at the bottom).

Try disabling all other plugins or something.

36. Sorry I didn’t clarify.
I’m talking about using this in the sidebar but creating the sidebar as a dynamic piece.
(ie its not a widget that you manually drag/add to the sidebar area in the admin).
Instead I’ve created a piece of code that sits in my sidebar-extension.php file (or for simpler terms, just say its in functions.php).

This code does a query for the most recent post tagged with category video.
And displays ONLY the video in the sidebar.
The other options I’ve seen require manually entering the the video shortcode in a text widget on the sidebar. And when you want it changed – you have to manually change the shortcode.

Here is the issue. The query for most-recent post with category “video” works.
The shortcode works (ALMOST). All the code is there EXCEPT for the “swfobject.embedSWF(…” line.
In your plugin you tell that to add it to the widget_text.
This means I have to manually drag a “text widget” to the sidebar in the admin.
All I have to do is drag an empty text widget and the code drops nicely into that widget area.
However if I don’t drag that text widget over to the sidebar… I never get the swfobject.embedSWF(… line.
This of course is the crucial one.

So question is:
How can I hook this function to a piece other than the widget_text.
Let’s say you wanted it in your footer. You wouldn’t add a widget to your footer. What method would I take to execute the shortcode in the footer if the do_shortcode only gets executed in widget_text.

Does that make sense?
