Is the “danger” with version 4 something about the TinyMCE code or something else? The reason I’m asking is I’m trying to get that part working with my own plugin, and would love to know how you fixed it! 🙂
I’ve attempted to get it working following a set of instructions here: http://alexrabe.boelinger.com/?page_id=46 but am so far unsuccessful. He appears to have gotten his methodology from you. (Ah, open source — round and round she goes!) 🙂
What did you have to do to fix the TinyMCE buttons? Also, I have the impression that this was all working in WP 2.1 Beta, but not in the final version. True or no?
Thanks!

It’s mostly the embedded video file parts that need work. The TinyMCE integration works fine and I actually got it working thanks to the author of Anarchy Media Player, so you may want to check out that source file too.
As for http://alexrabe.boelinger.com/?page_id=46, that looks like it’s actually based on my plugin (but my code is a lot cleaner).
Interesting. When I install your 4.0 version, the TinyMCE editor is completely blank — no buttons _or content_ whatsoever. Trying the Code tab does nothing.
There must be some difference in the Server install or something. My test blog runs on Apache 2.0.52 on OS X. The WordPress install is a fresh 2.1 install, so I can’t imagine the problem being there. No other plugins are running either.
I get this error in Firefox’s error console (striderweb.local is the locally hosted version of my site….):

… and then over time that last error repeats over and over again, as though that bit of JavaScript keeps firing every couple minutes or so….
As with others, turning off the Rich Text editor in User settings works just fine, so this isn’t a totally critical bug, but it would be nice to get working — and I figured you might be able to use the info for debugging. Apparently the WP folks are working to put TinyMCE hooks into the core code for version 2.2 🙂 so that’s cool.
I would like them also in the WYSIWYG option. Any ideas?
From the download link:

Stephen Rider: I don’t have a clue frankly. Try reuploading the WordPress files, but I wouldn’t be surprised if my plugin was at fault. 4.0 is really buggy and is being basically recoded and throughly testing for 4.1.
So yeah, I wouldn’t really use 4.0 if I were you. Just stick to 3.0 and don’t use the WYSIWYG for now (it sucks anyway). 🙂
I’ve been having problems with the tags for Google Videos not working in IE 7.x. I had to modify the plugin to go back to using the old tags, which must be “activated” in IE 7 for now.
Has anyone else had problems with Google Videos in v4.0.0 of this plug-in under IE 7?
I really love your solution to the new version of WordPress (sarcasm):
Come on, dude. All I want to do is use WordPress 2.1, but I have to wait because you don’t want to fix this plugin to work with the newest version of WP.
but I have to wait because you don’t want to fix this plugin to work with the newest version of WP.
Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll drop everything I’m working on (including paid work) and instead work on this FREE plugin that I work on in my off-time. Is there anything else I can do for you, sire?
Jackass.
“Come on, dude. All I want to do is use WordPress 2.1, but I have to wait because you don’t want to fix this plugin to work with the newest version of WP.”
Hey Chris, repeat after me:
“Hey Man, thanks for all the hard work you’ve put into this great plugin. I hope to see the WYSIWYG stuff up and running sometime soon. Thanks again!”
There. Was that so hard?
I get this 404 error using quicktags 4.0 and WP 2.1 every time I go to edit a post:
/wp-content/plugins/vipers_videoquicktags/resources/tinymce/langs/.js
It seems that it does not look for a specific language file. In that folder there is a file called en_us.js, but it seems it is not fetched automatically?
How can I set it to fetch the correct langauge file?

Are you using English or Norwegian in the admin area of your blog? Also, v4 as said has bugs (including this one) that need to be fixed. 😉

I use English, so I dont think that should be a problem.
I will try installing the previous version of the plugin.
Thanks for responding 🙂
Hi, viper
Can you add some more site into this great plugin?
I’m from China, in China the famous online podcast site is http://www.tudou.com
Would you please add this site to your plugin?
Also, http://www.6rooms.com
I use English, so I dont think that should be a problem.
Yeah, turns out it’s a separate bug / issue not related to what language you use. Working on finding a fix.
I’m from China, in China the famous online podcast site is http://www.tudou.com[/quote%5D
This is a video plugin, not a podcasts one. Sorry.

Well I can’t read any of that, so I wouldn’t know where to start.
this plugin very helpful of mine
very good job
thank you very much
http://www.tudou.com is also a video share site, I think as long as you know the HTML code that should paste on any blog to show video from http://www.tudou.com, you can add the site into you plugin, even you don’t understand Chinese. Am I right?
I don’t know how to paster HTML code into this comment, always disappeared after summited.
Maybe you can visit this URL to get the HTML code?
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/y3mWX2mpB5Y/
In this page, seach “3. HTML”, the end of this line is HTML code that show the video.
Thanks a lot.
Hello,
I’ve been using your video quicktags plugin for quite awhile on my site and have at least 100 or so videos embedded with it.
Recently I have tried to install Alex Rabe’s WordTube plugin (http://alexrabe.boelinger.com/?page_id=20) to handle local videos files (files hosted locally, rather than those embedded from elsewhere like with your plugin), but for some reason I can’t get your plugin and his to play nice together.
When your plugin is active it somehow causes all of the “quotes” and apostrophes’ and whatnot that are in the script for his plugin to be rendered as html codes (& ntsb; and the like) instead of as quotes and apostrophes, which of course causes the plugin to fail and in some browsers to break the blog layout.
I have been discussing this with Alex in this thread on his forum ( here)
but we haven’t been able to figure this what the cause is, and he hasn’t been able to duplicate the problem.
I was wondering you might know what the problem might be (does something in your plugin in change encoding/rendering?) and maybe a work around?
You can see the plugin in action (or inaction at the moment really) on this post at my site http://www.ttancm.com/2007/02/02/popping/
The “Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.” message is where the plugin should be displaying videos (the videos below that I have put in temporarily by just directly embedding the flowplayer swf to get the videos to show up while I try and fix this problem). It works if I disable your plugin but not if it is left on.
If you could take a look and let me know if you have any ideas I’d really appreciate it.
My blog is WordPress 2.0.7 with the sandbox theme running, btw. The theme (my css modifications) is a bit broken at the moment, but I haven’t gotten around to fixing it yet.

Woops, thanks for your answer.. Now I will be going to a silent corner and kick myself! 🙂

v4 of my plugin does this a lot better and when I finish it off, it shouldn’t be a problem. Frankly, I’m not dealing with v3 anymore, it’s only available for download as v4 still needs some work before it’s ready for widespread use.
Although you realize my plugin will handle local files, right?
I’m waiting for the 2.1 plugin, also! 🙂
Best regards,
Loreen!
Hi viper,
Do you plan to include Dailymotion in v4? I did it for v3 (just a copy of youtube actually) and I can provide you with the icon if you need^^
Do you plan to include Dailymotion in v4?
No. The video ID that’d needed to embed is not located in the URL, only in the actual embed HTML that they give you. This makes it too much of a pain in the ass for users to use with my plugin (they’d have to go in there and extract the code and all that stuff).
You might as well just paste in the embed code yourself.
Hi again,
I actually got ver. 3 of your plugin and the WordTube plugin running on a WP2.1 testblog with no problems, go figure.
I do realize that your plugin can handle local files but the wordtube plugin is a lot more detailed for local files. It sets up a media gallery in the admin section where I can browse my media, organize them into (embeddable) playlists, set media player attributes on a per video basis, etc.
Honestly if your plugin and the Wordtube plugin were combined, I think you would have the ultimate video plugin for WordPress.

Erf! I guess I’ll do that, because it’s convenient this way (at least for me. But I guess you’re right because I’ve been asked many times about this thing on dailymotion code. Thanks.

Yeah, it’s just basic support and was added as an afterthought.
This plugin is exactly what we were looking for. No problems with 4.0 here yet. Thanks for the work.
I know that you are working on a new version for WP 2.1, but until then, can you post what the tags are that we need use to embed videos?
THANKS FOR THE GREAT PLUGIN!!
[googlevideo]videoID[/googlevideo]Yes, the video ID, NOT the full URL. v4 supports the full URL, v3 doesn’t.
I’m confused… Does this post mean that we don’t need your plugin anymore:
http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/02/05/adding-video-and-podcasting-bling-to-your-wordpresscom-blogs/
I wasn’t aware that WordPress offered any sort of native support for these formats. Maybe that’s new for 2.1, but I hadn’t heard of this before.
Thanks, what about Quicktime?
I’m confused… Does this post mean that we don’t need your plugin anymore:
That is WordPress.com. It is totally separate from the version you download.
Thanks, what about Quicktime?
[quicktime width="300" height="400"]http://yousite.com/blah/site.mov[/quicktime]Thanks a lot!! As a fellow blogger, I really appreciate when I ask a question and get an answer. It’s something I strive for on my blog and seems that many others don’t.
Thanks for the help and for the amazing plugins!
After checking all the plugins I could find, I like yours the best. However, I have two issues you may be able to help with. First, Google Video clips display fine in Safari and Firefox on any platform, but not at all in IE of any version – just a blank space where the video should be. YT seems to work fine in all. Second, the added toolbar buttons on the visual editor do not appear in IE7. I would be happy to help debug if you need a tester. This really is by far the best package I have found. Using WP 2.1 and VVQ4 on Linux.
BTW, may I ask what you are using to give the format tags and quote link for your comments section? It’s very nice 🙂
Thanks!
Thanks heaps for your plugin. I’m using V4 on WP 2.1
Working so far under wysiwig.
If it dies, I’ll go back to V3 and non-wysiwig until you get a chance to tweak it some more for us non-techies who need wysiwig for posting 🙂
Will V4 have support for iFilm etc like V3 does ?
Thanks again for your efforts.
David Roberts: as said, v4 has many issues and shouldn’t really be used. 4.1 is a major, major improvement.
lochness: if v3 can do it, v4.1 should do it. I won’t be removing any sites. 🙂
Fantastic plug-in!
I’m trying to drop a YouTube video the body of a post. I’d like the video frame to be top-left aligned, and have 12px margin on the right, and 2px margin on the bottom.
Is this possible, or am I wasting my time? Thanks.
I’m trying to drop a YouTube video the body of a post. I’d like the video frame to be top-left aligned, and have 12px margin on the right, and 2px margin on the bottom.
In v3, you’ll have to apply that to all objects. v4.1 is much, much improved and uses CSS classes.
But for now, this should work:
object { margin: 0 12px 2px 0; }Thanks. Where should that line be placed in “vipers_videoquicktags.php“?
Thanks. Where should that line be placed in “vipers_videoquicktags.php“?
No, that’s CSS, so stick it in your theme’s stylesheet (
style.css).Thanks for the great plugin! I’ve been through everything under the sun embedding videos in WP and finally one that is easy to use and does everything!
Duh… Thanks! It works perfectly now. Please have a look.
Just a question, I have V3.0 installed everything works good except, IFILM, it looks like everything is ok but the video does not load, all the others load fine
Any timescale on 4.1, I’m a little giddy about it.
Great work on the plugin, 3.0 that is!
Just a question, I have V3.0 installed everything works good except, IFILM, it looks like everything is ok but the video does not load, all the others load fine
Weird. I’ll make sure to double check the code before I release v4.1.
Any timescale on 4.1, I’m a little giddy about it.
I haven’t worked on it for quite some time due to paid work and my newfound hobby. 🙁
Hey man, thnx a bunch… gave you props at my site. Much appreciated.
What bugs does 4.0 have?
Just so you guys know. You can change the autostart property of Quicktime videos. If you edit the plugin, go to the quicktime directives and add another entry for param=”autostart” value=”false” and your QT files will not play automatically.
Cheers!
