Registered Users Only

Have a private blog that you only want your friends or family to read? Then this plugin is for you. It will redirect all users who aren’t logged in to the login form where they are shown a user-friendly message.

This plugin also features a configuration page where you can easilly toggle allowing guests to access your feeds.

Also, unlike some other registered users only scripts, you can’t get around this one by just visiting index.php?blah=wp-login.php nor does it break wp-cron.php or anything else.

Yeah, these are ancient screenshots (wordPress 2.5) and need to be updated.

  1. Hey. Very fine plugin. I have succesfully installed it. But the user is always directed til the profile site for the user. How do I avoid that?

Hmm, I don’t have that problem nor do I have any custom code that would redirect someone to their profile (although the auth check function I use does I think).

Make sure you’re using WordPress 2.5.1 and then disable all other plugins to see if you can get it to go away.

  3. It did not work with updating to 2.5.1 and diable other plugins. But I have seen that ‘Weasels Login Direct’ have a solution – but I haven’t testet it yet.

When using the login the user still get http://www.xxxxxx.xxx/wp-admin.

I can’t find a solution. But thanks for your advise

  4. when using this plugin, i found that i get the “requires Cookies” error and i cannot get any logins from IE. Firefox works fine on both Mac and PC. my WP version is: 2.3.3 – my cookies are enabled so this cannot be the case. how do i fix this??????

  5. I’m having kind of an odd problem with this plugin. When anyone logs they end up in a loop and eventually get a browser error message saying this site is redirecting in a way that will never resolve.

The only thing I can think of that may be a little different is that I have WordPress installed in a subdirectory and my WP URL is different from the Blog URL. So for example the WP URL would be http://www.mysite.com/blogdir/ and the Blog URL http://mysite.com.

    Any ideas?

  6. After upgrading to WordPress 2.6 this plug-in will not let users login. Is there some change to 2.6 that affects this plugin?

  7. I would also be very interested in seeing this great plugin work in the latest WordPress. Sadly, I had to take my site offline after upgrading, since I can’t make it private or else no one can log in.

  8. Brilliant! The new version works beautifully.

I’m not sure why you would call this plug a ‘failure from the start’. It’s simple and works great. It’s a nice replacement for the last one I used that locked down the RSS feeds as well (with no option to open them back up).

    Keep up the good work!

People had reported problems with it not working right, even before 2.6, and other plugins (that I didn’t know about when I wrote this) offer more features.

However you’re right — it is simple and if all you want to do is keep users out, it does quite a good job. 🙂

  10. I have successfully installed this plugin and it works great, except for one issue.

I have turned on the registration option, but when I try to click the “Register” link on the login page, it keeps coming back to the login page instead.

  12. Unfortunately this nice plug-in doesn’t work with WordPress for iphone. Any ideas how to solve that issue? can it be fixed at your end or must it be fixed in the iphone app?
    thanks zoingg

  13. I have tried this plug in and Members only and every time a subscriber logs in they return to the profile page – not the main blog index page where I want them to go.

Its driving me crazy. There must be something in the code somewhere that is making it do this, since everything I try in Members Only and this plugin doesn’t work. anyone have this problem? a solution?

I am unable to reproduce that issue. When I visit http://localhost/plugindev/about/ on my test blog while logged out, I am redirected to this URL:

    http://localhost/plugindev/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost%2Fplugindev%2Fabout%2F

Note the “redirect_to”. When I log in, even as a subscriber, I am redirected to that URL.

  15. Great plugin but is there a way to be able to show the rss feeds within the plugin activated? Because when it is activated it protects the feeds too 🙁

  16. Great plugin. Worked first time. I would like to somehow have a LogOut link. Is that possible? Also, is it possible to redirect all members to the same page or link after logging in … that is to the main home page and not to their member area?

    thanks for a great plugin.

It should redirect to the page they originally requested.

But anyway, no, I have no plans on expanding the features of this plugin. There are some others out there that may meet your needs though.

  18. Great plug in, but the only problem I’m having with it is that when I log in, it takes me to the “dashboard” rather than to the main static page I have set up in the settings. Is there a way to change this? I’d like a forced login, followed by them getting the main display page I have in my settings.

  20. You need to add this to your exclusions array for people using the latest WordPress Mu and BuddyPress installs…

    ‘wp-signup.php’,

If you don’t, every time someone clicks “register” they will be brought back to the same default sign-in page.

    Great plug-in…

  22. I’m very happy with this plugin, but it blocks the iPhone WordPress App. Now I can’t connect to my site anymore to write posts with my iPhone… Reading the ‘ known issues’ (on iPhone.wordpress.org) see this a known bug.

Any idea what’s causing this and how to solve it?

Try adding xmlrpc.php to the list of excluded pages in the plugin. I didn’t think it was needed, but perhaps it is…[/quote]

That worked, although I had to de-activate/activate the plugin before changed took effect (a bit strange though).

Thanks a lot for the quick response! You might want to update the plugin and notify the guys behind the iPhone App, since your plugin is listed as having issues: http://iphone.forums.wordpress.org/topic/known-issues
(it might be mentioned on other pages as well as having issues)

  24. I tried this with IE8, Firefox 3, Opera 9.6, Safari 4 and Mobile Safari. It only worked with Firefox and Opera. The plug-in works pretty good, this problem aside.

  25. Browser shouldn’t affect it (unless it’s caching). It checks auth cookies and redirects to the login form if you’re not logged in. Nice and simple.

  26. Great plug-in!! Worked perfectly when I installed it. It was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

  27. If you are having problems with user being directed to Dashboard after login, have user log out, clear their browser cache, then log back in.
It worked for me on Firefox, Safari and IE8.

  28. Hello,

Was hoping for a quick solution after being recommended this plugin.

It doesn’t seem to be working, I have extracted the folder to content/plugins etc, I have activated the plugin, am I missing something?
