  2. No…it turns out it’s the Quicktags plugin.

    Here’s what’s wrong. (BTW, I did turn off every other plugin during these tests).

    Simply it’s that if the Youtube shortcode tags are embedded between an anchor tag then you get that bug.

    In my case I had an image inserted into the post and accidentally inserted the Youtube video with Quicktags right before the <img tag. Result. The video and thumbnail image bug.

    I tried it with other anchor tags and got the result wherever the video was embedded within the tags.

    • Well yes, of course if you invalidly nest HTML it’s going to break. 😉

      And I’ll consider the posts thumbnail feature for 7.1 (I want to release 7.0 ASAP, so it will not be introducing any new features).

  3. P.S. I’m still holding out hope you might retrieve the Youtube/etc thumbnails and assign them to the Post Thumbnail even tho you haven’t replied as yet. 😉

    • You need to move, not copy, vipers-video-quicktags.php to mu-plugins, otherwise you are trying to activate the plugin twice. All plugins in in mu-plugins are automatically activated.

  5. I have seen a lot of praise for this mod. I am looking for a video mod that has an age gate (or can have one added with ease), and one know if this will suit me needs? (Need age gate for ESRB)

  10. Do you have any plans to include an option to enable the js api for youtube videos in the future? Or is that too specialized a use case? I just opened up the plugin file to hack it up to do that, just wondering if you’d like me to submit a patch…

    Youtube is limiting each video to be video -> title page + first clip -> sub page with list of part 1, 2, and 3.

    I was wondering is possible to auto generate a play list based on parent -> child relation so that when part 1 finishes, it will auto start part 2 and part 3 thereafter.

    is this something possible?

    I noticed that the release of JW Player component (to read .FLV file in posts) is not updated into the latest version of Viper Video Quicktag… In Viper Video Quicktag, it’s JW Player version 4.x.y
    I have downloaded the latest .SWF file from http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player and overwrite the 2 required .SWF files, it’s working fine. It’s version 5.1.897

    Do Viper007Bond plan to update JW Player directly into the next Viper Video Quicktag releases ???

    Great plug-in. I’m a little bummed that the videos are not in the RSS feed… I had an idea! Instead of the (Click here to view the embedded video.) would it be possible to have to have te YouTube thumbnail as clickable image instead of the text?

  31. I see that you are removing JW Player. However, what if we already own a license to JW Player? Can we safely replace the player with the licensed version of the JW Player?

    Also, would it be possible to add support for multiple versions of the same video at different bitrates? The reason I ask is because the JW Player has support for the HD toggle plugin, and even Flowplayer supports bitrate switching these days.

    • Yes, the plan is to allow you to still use the JW Player if you so desire.

      I won’t be adding any new features really to v7.0 as I just want to get it out the door, but we’ll see for v7.1 or whatever.

    If i check my website for validation is marked the line

  35. Thanks so much for a great plug-in. I’m having some trouble getting it working now that WordPress 3.0 is out. I use both Safari and Firefox, both on a Mac, both up-to-date. However, with the plugin activated, I get a number of issues – new post pages are blank in the middle column instead of providing boxes in which to write the post/title/etc. Adding links and images via the pop-ups that WP provides also don’t work and come up blank.

    I presume this is just a compatibility thing because WP 3.0 is new but any wisdom is appreciated.

  36. Thanks. I’ve worked a bit harder at the incompatibility and discovered the issue. It’s nothing to do with your plugin at all – so humblest apologies. It’s actually a contact-form plugin that I was using that is causing the error. I’ll go knock on their door now! 🙂

  40. In WP 2.9.2 and 3.0 using VVQT 6.2.17, on the backend, the plugin adds icons to the visual editor toolbar, which increases the horizontal editor width This makes the editor area overlap with the side widget bar on the backend. Once I deactivate the plugin, the overlap problem disappears.

    As far as I can tell, the tag defines the boundary width of the editor (on the backend) and VVQT 6.2.17 adds icons to the editor which overflows this tag.

    • People were reporting broken editors if the buttons were on line #3.

      Settings -> Video Quicktags: You can pick which buttons to show (it now defaults to less buttons on by default than it did before).

      Settings -> Video Quicktags -> Additional Settings: You can pick what line number to show the buttons on (new default is #1, old default is #3).

  42. I can’t wait for version 7.0 to make it out. Don’t get me wrong, I have used this plugin for a couple of years now, and hope to keep using it in the future. I am just waiting almost impatiently for that other player besides the JW Player for flash.

    • v7.0 is currently at 3000 lines long and it’s only like half done (maybe 75%). Like the versions before it, it’s a huge ass plugin and takes a long time to write. Before I was barely working, leaving lots of time to write code. For the past year or so though, I’ve had a fulltime job which means I have little time left to spend writing plugins. Plus when you spend all week looking at and writing code, who wants to spend the weekends writing code too? 😉

      I promise I’ll get it out, but it’s slow going. 🙁

      • Hey, no worries. I can’t stand it if I am not impatient about something. Now if I could just figure out how you did that neat little “Reply” button here…

        • It’s a part of my theme, but which aspect are you referring to? The sliding down and appearing on hover is a bit of jQuery. The actual reply functionality is built into WordPress. The “In Reply To” and your reply showing up at the end of the comments rather than under the comment you replied to is a little plugin I wrote but haven’t released yet.

    Currently I have 3 lines in the WP editor… so, vipers icons are added there, and it shows a looong line…
    there is any way to have a 4th line setting?
    or, maybe, a “add after last line” setting?
